Neurosign Goes to AAO-HNSF, Bringing Biomedical Engineer to Discuss Device Design

Neurosign, a pioneer in the world of intraoperative nerve monitoring, will bring its array of cost-effective and reliable nerve monitoring solutions to this year’s OTO Experience at the AAO-HNSF 2022 Annual Meeting in Philadelphia Sept. 11-13.

From its leading stimulating probes, electrodes, and stimulating instruments to the intuitive and versatile V4 Intraoperative Nerve Monitor, Neurosign will showcase its complement of instruments, accessories, and monitor designed to help surgeons identify nerves and preserve nerve function.

Joining the Neurosign team in booth #2037 will be biomedical engineer Fabian Habets, who is coming to the conference to discuss medical device design and performance with those who use the instruments to monitor nerve integrity. Habets is the project lead in the development of several innovative laryngeal nerve monitoring devices and, as a visiting scholar at Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane, Australia, designed and integrated an improved contraction method for a silicone left ventricle mock circulatory loop.

“As engineers, we’re always exploring how we can improve patient outcomes with the instruments that aid surgeons in their work, but the ideas start with the surgeons, themselves,” Habets said. “I’m excited to come to Philadelphia because it gives us a chance in a more casual setting to discuss suggestions, wants, and ideas for nerve monitoring devices with those who are using disposable probes, electrodes, and instruments in practice every day.”

A member of the engineering team at Technomed, the legal manufacturer of Neurosign disposables, Habets earned his master’s degree in biomedical engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology with an extra-curricular certificate in technology entrepreneurship and management. He joined Technomed in 2020 and has been integral in the EU MDR transition of class I and IIa neuromonitoring devices.

“Fabian brings biomedical engineering expertise and curiosity to explore how we can advance nerve monitoring that serves the needs of surgical teams,” said Mike Day, Neurosign U.S. sales director. “There is a real desire for something cost-effective and reliable in the operating room that practitioners can easily use. We’re excited to have Fabian join us and gain more insight into what surgeons and their teams need to preserve the nerve integrity of patients.”

This is Neurosign’s first exhibit at the OTO Experience. In addition to talks with Fabian, Neurosign’s CEO, Ronnie Stolec-Campo, will join the team to talk with healthcare leaders and surgical teams about what the future may look like for intraoperative nerve monitoring. Staff also will lead demonstrations of the V4 Intraoperative Nerve Monitor as well as samples of its cost-effective laryngeal electrode; its broad array of stimulating probes including monopolar, bipolar, and concentric; and its innovative and surgically efficient stimulating dissectors.
